Am I the only one crafting for the holidays? Yeah, it’s a bit early so I may be the only nut in the jar right now but I have a reason. I swear. As many of you know we have an annual Christmas Craft Party the second weekend in November. This will be our 6th year. Usually I have an idea all set to go on what ornaments we will make but for some reason this year I’m still on the fence.
I really wanted to make the cork reindeer that are all over Pinterest. I have a huge collection of wine corks (ahem) and love a good “trash to treasure” project.
Sorry for the dark photo, it was just a quickie with a cell phone. I think he came out quite cute! But it was a fiddly project. Plus I stabbed myself with a skewer and got a hot glue burn. Not as quick and easy as I thought though I’m glad I have one for my tree and plan to make more for the next craft show.
I just love this one. I scored a ton of those tiny tart tins (and some in medium and large sizes as well) and am thrilled with how this one came out. Also inspired by Pinterest and fairly simple to put together but wow, when did Styrofoam balls get so expensive? Those are tiny, too, about an inch and were $6 for like 16 I think. Just seems like a lot to me. These will probably not be a craft day project and will most likely be destined for the craft show as well.
Here are a few more test ornaments. At the top is a curtain ring. I really love this one and there is a lot of potential. I found a handful of white ones but usually I only run into the brown. I’ll be looking for them now as I think you could cover the brown with seam binding which will look darling with glitter.
The bottom right is an altered light bulb. Also cute but this one was already glittered from last year and I’m worried if we do this for craft day we will have to wait for them to dry before we can decorate and time may be against us.
On the bottom left is an altered domino. I think this will be one of the projects. Dominoes are easy to come by and I can get them in bulk for a good price so everyone can make more than one. I plan to attach the hanger in advance so the glue has time to dry and then everyone can decorate to their hearts desire. Lord knows I have plenty of paper, glitter and tinsel to go around.
So what do you think? Any good ideas brewing? We need to be able to buy supplies for 18 – 20 people at a decent price and have it be a quick and relatively easy project so we can make them and still chat, eat and drink.
